Launched in 2016, Decent Jobs for Youth is led by the International Labour Organisation (ILO).  On 29 November 2017, alliance members met to launch the Engagement Platform, a critical component for the success of this initiative.

The purpose

The engagement platform facilitates youth employment partnerships and helps players to scale up efforts and generate impact.  Partners including think tanks, academic institutions and specialized knowledge partnerships provide the latest insights on youth employment. Through this knowledge base, trade and investment support institutions (TISIs) can access proven good practices and innovative approaches to enhance youth employment.

Expanding opportunities for joint action

ITC joined this worldwide alliance through the Gambia Youth Empowerment Project ( At the launch, ITC’s Deputy Executive Director Dorothy Tembo confirmed the organisation’s commitment to increase access to decent jobs for youth in the rural economy in The Gambia.  The country’s public and private entities (including the national TIPO), technical and vocational training institutions and the government entities responsible for trade, employment and education have joined ITC in this project. Their combined efforts aim to build the technical and vocational skills of Gambian youth, generate quality apprenticeships, and support entrepreneurs. In addition, TISIs are being strengthened to better support these entrepreneurs in their efforts towards internationalisation.
